I just verbed a noun, which, since this is the Decadent Publishing blog, means both Valerie and Kate are rolling their eyes at me. Submissive on the Run , my newest release, extends my stint on the 1Night Stand train to six books. And if I had known about the series prior to submitting my first Decadent manuscript, Delicious Delay would probably have been adapted to fit the series as well. After all, it is about a one-night stand, is 20,000 words long, and everything happens in less than 24 hours. All that’s missing is Madame Eve.

Be that as it may, six books is quite a commitment to a rather specific story structure, which begs the question—why do I keep coming back? For one, I thrive on guidelines. Left to my own devices, I tend to write sprawling fantasy sagas that never end, or post-apocalyptic epics that really don’t have a place in the market. Such ambitious projects, coupled with my somewhat hectic schedule, tend to lead to discarded, half-written manuscripts.

More importantly, the series allows me to focus on a single interlude in a character’s life—a moment that is extremely important. In other words, I get to cut straight to the good stuff guilt free (because Kate is making me, and she’s my Evil Mistress). By doing so, she forces me to make the most out of the magical window when two people fall in love.

And yes, there’s the perk of jumping to the sexy stuff in record time. Patience is definitely not my virtue.
