Between work and school, my life has become too much to handle.
I thrash around lost in nightmares, waking to bedclothes tangled around my legs and arms like a straight jacket. My chest tightens with every breath and I’m not sure I will be able to keep up with all my responsibilities. But what do I quit? The job that pays the rent or the classes that promise a better future?
My therapist suggests meditation. Or yoga. Or breathwork. I laugh off such a ridiculous suggestion and quit going to him.
But that of course doesn’t improve the situation. At the grocery store one day, I spot a flyer on the community board. A new woo-studio has opened that offers all the things my former therapist wanted me to try. In the parking lot, while loading my groceries, I overhear a couple of people raving about the meditation and classes and how they are feeling better.
I tell myself it’s not for me, but then find myself standing outside the door the next night. About to turn away, I see an omega bear shifter go in and walk to the front of the studio.
Maybe I could put up with some of it just to talk to him.
It’s never going to work on me, but I could play along.
