I moved to Oliver Creek without knowing what a tourist destination it had become. All I knew was that I needed to get away from seeing my ex living his best life everyday with his new mate and their new baby. Not that I wished them anything less, it was just hard watching them live the life I’d thought would be mine.
Anywhere would do, and I learned via a friend that Oliver Creek needed a new librarian. According to the mayor, the place had been newly revamped and needed someone younger, someone who knew how to get more patrons into the library. It was either that or lose funding. And that would be the real shame.
After working in a huge library for several years, I yearned to apply my organizational and planning skills to a smaller facility where I could make a real difference. So, I filled out the application, met with the town council via Zoom, and received an offer within days. Of course, I had to give notice at work and to my landlord, as well as handle other factors involved in moving and setting up a new life. Thirty days later, I packed my car, arranged for my furniture to be shipped, and started out filled with optimism.
From the moment I arrive in town, things go south. The library roof is leaking, my ex texts me that he regrets our breakup and wants me back, and my apartment isn’t ready. The council offers to put me up, but there is not a room available in the entire town.
Oliver Creek might be the newest, shiniest thing, but it’s screwing me over.
